Nhất Dạ Trạch

Nhất Dạ Trạch, the Overnight Lake, exists in both myth and history. In myth, it is where the palace of Chử Đồng Tử and Tiên Dung appeared, then vanished into the sky, and the ground sank into a lake. In 6th-century history, it was the stronghold where Triệu Quang Phục resisted the Liang invasion, and also where Chử Đồng Tử first enters the official record, not in the Hùng Vương section but under Triệu Việt Vương. The lake itself has almost vanished, buried by silt and reclaimed as farmland, but the site now sits at the heart of a Special National Heritage Zone (2024) and one of the major festival networks along the Red River.
